Bar Tacks
Bar Tack: Plain
Bar tacks are an essential part of longevity for many kinds of garments. Particularly where there is an opening that is along a seam, a bar tack is a secure, strong stitch that prevents the seam from tearing and opening up. The bar tack stops the pressure of wear from working its way into the seam and breaking down the stitching.
Bar Tack: Buttonholed
Depending on the era and style of garment, or the tastes of the designer, a bar tack can be made plain, or covered with buttonhole stitches. A buttonholed bar tack is strong and decorative and it used in places which might be easily seen. This type of bar tack is particularly useful when finishing stitches are carried out in a contrasting color.
