The Spanish “Golilla” Collar and linen “Valona”

This uniquely Spanish style of stiff collar is made in two parts. The Golilla is the under layer or support structure that is made of paperboard covered in fabric. Once that is made, the Valona can be made to fit. The Valona is a linen over-layer that is made with some intriguing techniques that involved rib-tucks, which are unlike any tuck you’ve ever seen. There is also a significant amount of manipulation of the bias edges that allows a collar, cut on the straight grains of the fabric, to curve around the complex shape of the Golilla.
