Analyzing a Garment from the New World

Join us for this video of our Tuesday Zoom lounge lecture. In this lecture, we look at a surviving set of clothes from mid 16th century. Of Spanish style, these garments are believed to have been made in the Americas. The jacket/Ropilla is made of local indigenous cotton and the breeches appear to be second hand. Whatever their origin, they are a fascinating look into a set of clothes from a time and place that doesn’t get enough attention.
