Pattern Making with Adobe Illustrator: AUS/NZ/Western US 8pm-10pm EDT
DATES: OCTOBER 7-14-21-28 2023 (AUS/NZ October 8-15-22-29)
This class is the ultimate starter’s guide to working in Illustrator for any kind of pattern making — Except Draping. that doesn’t really work directly in the program…but there is a way!
In the first lesson, students will learn how to set up a work area and then learn the basics of the names of the tools, their icons and how they work to help the flow. We will also set up templates for that work area as well as developing a print template for whatever size printer you have.
In the second lesson, they will learn about the basic principles of drafting in illustrator and how that can be adapted to any drafting system. Those skills will then be applied to drafting a simple jacket pattern.
In the third week, we go deeper with a lesson about establishing drafting rules for different garments and then creating the smallest and largest sizes to allow the computer to fill in all the gaps in between. As long as your drafting rules for the garment are sound, you should have a clear and perfect grade, no matter how many sizes you’re going for!
In the 4th week, we will discuss grading patterns in further detail as we work on a pair of breeches. Not only will we learn how to make the computer do the work but we will also learn how to use our grade to establish grading rules for the style which enables us to understand how old-fashioned grading works!
This class does not teach basic pattern making. It is intended for students who already know how to draft, but need a powerful digital tool on their side.
The price includes one private coaching session during the 4-week class.
